Growing Up in a Traditional Dominican Home

I grew up in a traditional Dominican household, where food was a daily expression of love, culture, and family.

Some of the dishes I grew up eating regularly included:

  • Rice and beans
  • Ensalada de papa
  • Mondongo
  • Slow-simmered stews, soups, and classic Dominican sides

Those meals shaped my palate and taught me that Dominican cooking is about depth of flavor, patience, and tradition passed down through generations.

Learning to Cook for Myself in College

When I left for college, I no longer had home-cooked meals waiting for me and that’s when I truly learned how to cook.

Instead of relying on shortcuts, I began recreating the Dominican recipes I missed from home. Through trial, error, and repetition, I learned how to cook confidently from scratch and understand flavor balance.

That stage of my life laid the foundation for the easy Dominican recipes I share today.

Teaching Myself How to Bake From Scratch

Cooking sparked my interest baking became my passion.

I taught myself how to bake and decorate cakes from the ground up. Over time, that passion expanded into advanced baking projects, including:
