Ingredients

  • pounds fresh green beans trimmed
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 5 garlic cloves minced
  • ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese optional

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Green Beans

  • Wash and trim the ends from the green beans. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.

Step 2: Blanch the Green Beans

  • Add the green beans to the boiling water and cook for 4–5 minutes, until they are bright green and slightly tender.
  • Immediately transfer the green beans to a bowl of ice water. This stops the cooking process and helps the green beans maintain their beautiful color.
  • Drain the green beans well.

Step 3: Sauté the Garlic

  • Heat the butter and olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  • Add the minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds, stirring frequently, until fragrant. Be careful not to burn the garlic.

Step 4: Add the Green Beans

  • Add the blanched green beans to the skillet. Sprinkle with Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper.
  • Toss everything together and cook for another 4–5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the green beans are heated through and coated in the garlic butter.

Step 5: Finish and Serve

  • Remove from the heat and sprinkle with freshly grated Parmesan cheese, if desired.
  • Serve the garlic green beans recipe warm with your favorite main dish.
