Ingredients
  

  • 1 tsp anise seeds
  • 1 stick cinnamon
  • Pinch of ground cloves
  • Pinch of nutmeg
  • Pinch of ginger
  • 1 whole apple Gala or preferred variety, sliced
  • 4 ½ cups water
  • Sweetener of choice honey, maple syrup, or sugar, optional

Instructions
 

  • Slice the apple and place it into a medium pot with spices.
  • Add water and bring to a boil.
  • Reduce heat and simmer for 10–15 minutes.
  • Strain into mugs.
  • Sweeten if desired.
  • Serve hot or chilled over ice.
