Course Dessert
Servings 1 Large Pop Tart

Ingredients

  • 1 box refrigerated pie crusts contains 2 crusts
  • 4 tbsp strawberry jam thicker jam works best
  • 1 drop red gel food coloring
  • ½ drop black gel food coloring
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp milk

Instructions

  • Preheat & Prep – Preheat your oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Prepare the Dough – Lightly flour a surface and unroll both pie crusts.
  • Make the Jam Filling – In a small bowl, mix the strawberry jam with the red and black gel food coloring to create a deep, eerie red filling.
  • Assemble the Base – Place one pie crust onto the lined baking sheet and spread the jam mixture evenly, leaving a ½-inch border around the edges.
  • Create the Spooky Face – Take the second pie crust and cut out two large circles for eyes, small slits for the nose, and a creepy mouth shape using a knife.
  • Seal the Pop Tart – Carefully place the cut-out pie crust over the jam-covered base. Press the edges with a fork to seal.
  • Egg Wash – In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and milk. Brush the top of the pop tart with the egg wash for a golden, crisp finish.
  • Bake – Bake for 18-20 minutes or until the top is golden brown.
  • Cool & Serve – Let the pop tart cool slightly before serving. If any jam oozes out, it only adds to the spooky, “bloody” effect!

Notes

Pro Tips:

  • Use a small round cookie cutter for perfect eye holes.
  • Swap the jam for raspberry or cherry for a richer red filling.
  • Add a sprinkle of cinnamon sugar before baking for extra flavor.
