Chocolate Ghost Cupcakes Recipe

This recipe makes 15-16 cupcakes.

Ingredients:

Cupcakes:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • โ…“ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ยพ cup granulated sugar
  • ยผ cup dark brown sugar (or light brown sugar if preferred)
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ยฝ tsp baking soda
  • ยฝ cup buttermilk (room temperature)
  • ยผ cup vegetable oil
  • 1 large egg (room temperature)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ยฝ cup hot water

Frosting:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter (room temperature)
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp heavy whipping cream
  • Pinch of salt
  • Halloween sprinkles

Ghost Decorations:

  • 1 cup white chocolate (melted)
  • Black circular sprinkles (or melted dark chocolate for eyes and mouth)

Instructions:

Step 1: Prepare the Cupcakes

  1. Preheat your oven toย 350ยฐF (175ยฐC). Line a muffin tin with cupcake liners.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, granulated sugar, brown sugar, baking powder, and baking soda.

  1. In a stand mixer with a paddle attachment (or using a hand mixer), cream butter forย 2 minutesย until light in color.
  2. Add vanilla extract and salt, then mix again.
  3. Gradually add powdered sugar and heavy cream, mixing forย 30 secondsย before increasing speed.
  4. Beat on high forย 4 minutesย until fluffy.

Step 4: Assemble the Cupcakes

  1. Fill a piping bag with the frosting (or use a spatula) and frost each cupcake, smoothing the tops.
