How to Make DIY Non-Toxic Dishwasher Tablets

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup washing soda
  • 1 cup salt (fine grain works best)
  • 1 cup baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon citric acid
  • 3/4 cup lemon juice (freshly squeezed or bottled)

Instructions:

  1. Combine Dry Ingredients โ€“ In a large mixing bowl, stir together the washing soda, salt, baking soda, and citric acid.
  2. Add Lemon Juice โ€“ Gradually pour in the lemon juice while stirring continuously. The mixture may fizz slightly, which is normal.
  3. Mold the Tabs โ€“ Press the mixture firmly into ice cube trays or silicone molds. Make sure to pack each mold tightly to help the tabs hold their shape.
  4. Let Them Dry โ€“ Allow the tabs to sit in the molds for at least 24 hours until they harden completely.
  5. Store Properly โ€“ Once dry, remove the tabs from the molds and store them in an airtight container.

How to Use:

  • Place one tab in the detergent compartment of your dishwasher per load.
  • If you have hard water, add 1/2 tablespoon of citric acid or vinegar to enhance cleaning power and prevent residue buildup.

Thank you for this recipe. My question is where do you put the exta citric acid iff you have braid water? Do you add it to the recipe when you”re making it? – on add the citric acid to the dishwasher pod compartment or the rinse aid compartment?

    1. I typically place it into the dishwasher compartment. You can add some into the mixture as well but you will probably need to add a little more liquid if you did plan to do that. Hope this helps!

  2. How many table spoons does each tab contains? Is it safe to assume each tab is about 1 table spoon?

    1. Yes! If I donโ€™t use the molds I usually take 1 tablespoonful!

  3. 5 stars
    Cleans great!
